Not really as Alex was never sinister. Olivia is sinister and capable of anything. Alex was greed played for laughs, basically Tina Lord dialed up a notch or two. Or, well, Maxie as a middle-aged woman.

The main similarity is that both are self-absorbed, so there's that. But everything Alex did, including the men she wound up with, had to do with attaining and keeping $$$ so her self-absorbed ways tended to be played for laughs or even comedy. In a way its like Olivia is Alex minus her obsession with wealth and that's actually kind of fascinating. She's hammy but knows how to not go overboard (IMO) like RKK.

Wow, speaking of OTT, I was watching old clips and Julian was completely insane back when he shot Olivia. The current Julian barely has a pulse!

The original JJ was just not that good an actor.

Also Olivia is OTT because the writers have decided she has had no life since 1990, her obsession for Duke has grown to Sunset Boulevard proportions. I think they're going to go the Lesley Webber route and it will turn out she's been held in the Asian Quarter for decades in a fugue state. Whereas realistically she would have recovered from being shot, killing whomever was holding her, escaped and started a new life.

OMG I loved Jason Culp! He never went OTT. I loved when Julian was dating Anna (which the current writers pretend never happened lol)

The Culp JJ was better written by far, but DeVry does much more w a much weaker SL.
