Discuss The Pale Horse

I thought Sarah Phelps was not going to do any more Christie adaptations - but here she is again - making a mockery of original works. As soon as I see her name I know that I am not going to finish any series she has created - so pc it makes you vomit - and so arrogant in her belief that she can do it better than Christie. Steer clear if you enjoy Agatha Christie.

Just finished watching it and as you say it is rubbish. It's hard to understand why Phelps wants to change the Christie stories so much. Everytime you read people's reviews of stuff she (Phelps) has done it seems that everyone hates her stuff and this was no exception. Not even sure what that ending was supposed to mean in this one.

I think she has such an overpowering arrogance she simply can't contain it. Her narcissism demands that she is a better writer than Christie. She has a peculiar blindness to the eras in which Christie set her stories - she cannot see that their charm lies therein - so she decides that everything has to be altered and dramatized and modernised to include every pc trope known to man - ahem -person in order to satisfy her ego and pay homage to diversity. I would love to see what she would do to Pride and Prejudice or Vanity Fair. I blame the Christie Foundation who has betrayed their namesake unforgivably for the sake of money. Christie herself must be spinning in her grave at the butchery of her work that they have allowed to happen.

Sadly anyone now and in the future who is not familiar with Agatha Christie, and see these kind of adaptations as an introduction to the author and her works, will get a warped idea of the characters and their world of mysteries.

The impression is that this and other new series are more adaptations of fanfiction than Christie's truly engaging stories.

Fortunately the older adaptations still exist and - unlike these new versions - are broadcast frequently on the telly. Today I'll be viewing "Evil under the Sun", "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile".
