... Excerpt from ‘1899’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season:
“With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed,” co-showrunners bo Odar and Friese announced Monday on Odar’s Instagram account. “We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned.”

It's a shame. I enjoyed it, even although I thought the ending didn't really leave them anywhere to go other than repeating the season one scenario in a different setting.
It weird though, I was reading that Netflix makes a judgement on renewal based upon number of viewers who view a show within the first 28 days!
I hope it gets picked up elsewhere...

Ah yes. Shame. Thanks for sharing. I'd have probably watched another series but I guess it ended ok. I felt Dark had a few too many series, I still watched them all but it was a fine line as to whether I was getting bored vs I need to know what happens next. i think it would have been the same with 1899. The mood and music keeps you keen for more but I'd have preferred both these series if they'd had a defined beginning and end. There's always a worry they'll go on forever like Lost.
Thanks for the update.

That's correct. They seem to be the only production company who has that strict rule. Any series that doesn't have enough viewers watching the complete season within the 28 days limit, will be cancelled.
So as a viewer for future series on Netflix, if you like the show, watch the complete season within 28 days.
Btw it is not known how viewers are counted with account sharing.

It was a good show. I would have liked a S2 and S3 which apparently was all planned out. Anyway, I couldn't figure out who was related to Kevin Costner anyway (*joke)
