Very well-done adaptation/screenplay that is true to the spirit of the books, which is unusual. And the little ways that were changed for the TV version almost seemed to be...improvements in some ways! or, at least, were just creatively different ways to show something, which worked well and stayed with the original intent. Not to mention the acting (esp Jean/Bénédict, of course, with his ever-so riveting performance! and with good chemistry by Yolande/Christine)...nailed it. I feel they very well conveyed all the inner emotions that we don't necessarily get to "hear" in a TV/movie medium (versus a book). (And, Ludwig was good enough with what he could do, considering "Gabriel" was physically incapable of showing much outer expression.) So yes,... entertaining and engrossing, fantastically cast, well-built atmosphere for the story, good mix of weird and sentimental... I say, an awesome series!
I wish an on-screen adaption as well-done as this one existed for all the good books out there...also managing to be just as entertaining for people who haven't read the books. They really got it right here.
So again, loved it. 10/10 from me. (The only complaint I have is the time spent on the secondary plot of the marquis(e)/"vampires"/cult...but that's Gaston Leroux's fault...to me just distraction from the evermore engrossing plot of Benedict/Christine/Gabriel.)
Jean-Paul Zehnacker as Bénédict 'gives me life!' as the kids say these days ;)
