This occurred in episodes 1 and 10. In both cases, the shopper (Joel or Abby) is thinking deeply about some problem with Sheila. Ramona, the store worker, makes routine comments about her job, and Abby and Joel thinks she is saying something profound.

I think that Ramona's character in Santa Clarita's Diet is a gem. Ramona Young is also in Z Nation and I think she's excellent. I think it was after helping Joel to an epiphany where he asks her something like "how do you do that?" and she goes: "I see things other people don't" and then she picks up a product and says "this should be on aisle so-and-so" and leaves and I died.
SCD's first two episodes were abysmal in my opinion (Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer did a terrible job at directing these great actors, I was cringing the whole time, very fake and flat. All funny lines fell on the ground, horrible editing, each one of them a caricature...) but then it got a little better. By the end of the first season I laughed out loud in many places. Maybe they need some more time so that everyone (actors, directors) finally click.

I agree eroubs, once I got through the first two episodes the show really started to pick up and I finished the rest of the season in a day. I'm glad I stuck with it, I really enjoyed it and critics liked it as well .
