A lot of people online have said they didn't like it because it "glorifies suicide" or "doesn't accurately represent..." or "insensitive to..."
and you have to stop and think...
Is there a way they could have done this... to appropriately represent the situation? To maintain everyone's feelings and show that suicide is most definitely not an option while still telling the story and making it interesting and catering to everyone's needs on the subject?
I don't think so....
I think that they made it clear that we met Hannah, we liked her. We didn't want her to die. She was awesome and cute and funny. We wanted her so desperately to live. For her to pop up at the end and go "SURPRISE! It was all a test". They made us feel bad for her, and hate the kids who did the bad things to her... but also showed that the kids aren't ALL BAD. Just... people make mistakes sometimes.. and we can either run from them.. or... learn from them! In E13 when she was in the bathtub, I couldn't watch, and I literally felt physically sick. I'm not squeamish, and I never look away from anything in movies, but this one here hit home. As someone who suffers from ridiculous anxiety and paranoia... It hit home.
The point was to make it painful to watch, because it wanted to be REAL. It NEEDS to be painful to watch, because that's how suicide is.
I literally felt after watching that scene... I was thinking to myself "I AM FREAKING STUPID FOR EVER CONSIDERING THIS BECAUSE PEOPLE LOVE ME LIKE THEY LOVE HANNAH, EVEN IF ITS SOMEONE SMALL LIKE THE POEM GUY OR THE LADY AT THE GAS STATION OR WHATEVER."
I felt like it was raw and real, not sugarcoated and had just enough of everything.
If there are kids out there who are going to "copycat" the situation or something... They need help, for sure, and they give them a place to get that at the end.... but you cant control everyone. I think that the show is going to HELP more people than it could hurt.
Loads of different things could hurt or kill you too, but the pros outweigh the cons in many situations, and I believe in this movie too.....
Driving a car. Going in an airplane. Running with scissors. (???) All risks and rewards. (Not sure which reward the scissors would have though, LOL. Come on, I had to end on a laugh, I was too serious here!)
