Just seen the the episode and totally agree with you. Wow, absolutely amazing. I enjoyed the first series but it felt a bit messy as it introduced us to the characters and set the tone. But this season and especially this episode i feel like it's stepped up a level. I've not read the books, so i have absolutely no idea or preconceptions as to how it's going to play out. I've gone from enjoying the show too i can't wait till the next episode to see what happens. I hope miller does survive somehow. He's my favourite character so far .
I also have not read the books but, my initial guess was that Julie used what ever force dampening she used to counter the acceleration of Eros when Miller was on it to also survive the impact on Venus. I quickly dismissed this thought as surely Eros would rip and burn apart in the atmosphere of Venus with its trajectory angle, unless of course Julie can also shield it some how or maybe displace the atmosphere. Or perhaps she wasn't countering the acceleration on Eros and was instead bending space in which case perhaps she simply teleported them out of there.
Whatever happened, I feel confident Miller survived and I am eager to watch the next the episode.
Edit: If Miller does survive what about when he breathed in the crystal particles? What is going to happen with that?
The interaction with Julie and Miller gave me some Raynor Kerrigan vives.
I Think they are meant to influence the big blue blob....give it a human perspective ....maybe he'll start to Rapp with Diogo and AROS.
I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the speed with which they glossed over Earths reaction of that entire episode. Prior to this they new NOTHING about EROS or the "mean blue mother from outer space" An extra solar life form should be earth shattering information....all they had were some "unreliable rumors".
Venus is an extremely hostile planet, very dense (92 times more than Earth, meaning you'll be squashed like a bug just for setting foot on the thing), acidic atmosphere, extremely hot (400+ celcius, so if you should miraculously survive getting squashed you'll be instafried instead, hehe), etc.
But... the protomolecule has shown that it doesn't really care to follow what we see as proven scientific norms, so who knows :D
Oh, so miller chose Venus because it had the best chance of destroying eros and the protomolecule. I didn't know that about Venus. That explains alot. I assumed he just chose Venus because it wasn't earth. Also, i thought that surely eros would just crash into Venus and then the protomolecule would take over the entire planet. Thanks for the info. That changes everything. I get the feeling that this is not the end of the protomolecule still. Like you said, it doesn't follow the scientific norms.

Yes Venus is extremely hostile, but it's mass isn't that much different from earth's - actually it's mean density is smaller than earth's: 5.243 g/cm3 whereas earth's: 5.514 g/cm3, but it's atmospheric pressure IS about 92 times that at Earth's, so yes you would be squashed like a bug, but not because of the planets density, only the atmospheric pressure. :)
Turn a "reality-grounded" sci-fi show into a "fantasy & magic" popcorn muncher.
This is precised the kind of stuff they were supposed to AVOID to make the show different. Now it may as well be Stargate or Lost In Space with magic aliens.

I haven´t read the books. But I guess it´s in there - so it was unavoidable I guess. But for me the first season gave the perfect background in it´s "realistic" approach,
that what happens now in season 2, has even more impact. New alien race in Star Trek - not special. Glowing alien life form here: Excitement. At least for me :)
Since we last saw Miller and Julie kissing after she pulls Miller to herself saying he belongs with her . . . my first thought was that Venus will be the site of a new Eden, with Miller and Julie being "Adam" and "Eve" for the evolution of the protomolecule, or rather the protomolecule bringing about the evolution of humankind.

great!!!! but surely you don't think protomolecule is going to make a world for Humans /Martians or Belters?

No, not at all. I think it is creating a "new human." Not sure the point of your question. Are you suggesting an interplanetary war?

Since the only contact with Humans has been violent attacks I would think the "extra solar life form will assume the worse and act to defend its self.
