Alice in Chains resurfaced on April 10, 1996 to perform their first concert in two and a half years for MTV Unplugged, a program featuring all-acoustic set lists. The show first aired on MTV on May 28, 1996 and was one of the band's final appearances with vocalist Layne Staley. The performance featured some of the band's highest charting singles, including "Down in a Hole", "Heaven Beside You", and "Would?", and introduced a new song, "The Killer Is Me". The show marked Alice in Chains' first appearance as a five-piece band, adding second guitarist Scott Olson. It is often hailed as one of the most memorable editions of MTV Unplugged.

Taped at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music in New York in April of 1996, Tori performs material off her latest release Boys For Pele, as well as work from previous albums. Song selections include: ""Blood Roses,"" ""Silent All These Years,"" ""Cornflake Girl,"" ""Caught A Light Sneeze,"" ""Icicle,"" ""Somewhere Over The Rainbow,"" ""Hey Jupiter,"" and ""Voodoo."" Amos, who plays harpsichord and piano, is accompanied on several numbers by guitarist, Steve Caton.

Oasis

Oasis were due to tape the show at the Royal Festival Hall on August 23, 1996, when lead singer Liam Gallagher pulled out at the last minute, citing a sore throat. The band performed despite this, with songwriter and guitarist Noel Gallagher handling the vocals. Liam watched the performance and heckled the group from the balcony.

George Michael

On October 11, 1996, George Michael performed a stunning concert at Three Mills Studios in East London for MTV Unplugged.

It was his first long live performance in years. He performed a few select tracks from his album Older and a few from his earlier recordings (including one from his Wham! days).

He also did a cover of "I Can't Make You Love Me". The performance was critically acclaimed and was the last performance his mother saw, as she died the following year
