I watched the very first episode and can't be bothered to watch the rest of the season...
What do you guys see in this show? It seems like just another cliche detective drama set in grey UK with a bunch of humourless sad people with isolated lives... the only noteworthy thing seems to be having Gillian Anderson as a star....
I ask because my friends have recommended this to me and say its amazing... but they are in love with Anderson, can't blame them, and I think might be blinded as a result...
Is it worth watching another episode?

It gets better! I recommended it to my mum, she even bought it on DVD, and she said the same thing as you. The first season is a bit slow and tedious at times, but then it starts to get interesting. It's supposed to be that way to really get under your skin. You'll see.
