He heads to Namimori middle and runs into three first year members of the baseball club and offers to train them for the upcoming game. The next day, Tsuna and his friends watch the game. 白蘭との戦いを控えているのに、相変わらず能天気ムードの山本。獄寺はそれをみて、苛立ちを隠せないでいる。しかし、山本には、彼なりの考えがあるようだ。そんな中、この時代の新聞紙で、並中野球部の地区大会予選があることを知る一同。草壁の話によると、この時代の並中野球部は荒れて、廃部寸前だという。それを聞き、表情を曇らせる山本。少しすると、アジトから山本の姿が消えてしまう。彼は野球部のことが気になり、並中に来ていたのだった。怒り心頭の獄寺だが、果たして山本の真意とは・・・？
