An old friend of Mark's calls him to ask for a meeting, but she is kidnapped before he can reach her. It soon transpires that her disappearance is tied to that of movie star Gloria James, who appears to have died or been murdered. The Chief naturally digs further, and finds a tale of heartache and sorrow which leads to the front door of a local mobster.

Une vieille amie de Marc l'appelle pour lui demander un rendez-vous mais elle est enlevée avant qu'il ait pu la rejoindre. Il apparaît bientôt que sa disparition est liée à celle de la star de cinéma Gloria James, qui a peut être été assassinée. Le chef creuse naturellement, et une tragique histoire menant directement à un représentant de la pègre locale refait surface.
