This was my favourite series, back when it was on. Yep: Always hoped they'd wind up together. Though, as Halberstram states, in real life that would be highly unlikely. (However happened in my niece's case, who she and her childhood sweetheart, since their respective ages 11, married five years ago, in their mid 20s; they've continuously been a couple since 11, and both now are nearly 30.)
What do you think? During the whole series the viewers were teased with them becoming a couple and then: nothing. Anyone disappointed?
I'm going to be completely honest. I totally love TWY and Kevin is definitely a great, authentic character who has flaws as no one is perfect, but Winnie did play with his emotions a lot through out the show. I know the writers have to give Kevin the whole ups and downs of teenage love, and even puppy love, but she pretty much toyed with his emotions more so than he did to her.
She went from being his best friend able to play and talk about anything to just conveniently using him when she broke up with her other boyfriends or was going through drama with her parents and such.
Yes no one really ends up marrying their first love and if they do the statistics probably show they don't end well together, but I think Winnie was always the one Kevin would pine for and compare all his other girlfriends to. Obviously Kevin does end up with someone else, well at least has a kid with another woman as thats the final voice over audio that we hear.
I wonder had the show not been canceled early would they have written the ending differently. Word is the show did not know if they were going to get picked up for another season who they shot the last episode in away that could serve as both a final season episode and series finale and it seemed like with the voice overs they decided to go with the way they did?
Absolutely, Danica McKellar sure did grow up to be gorgeous, and becomes more so the older she gets.
By the way, for those who don't know or recall it, her slightly younger sister Crystal was the girl who portrayed Kevin's vindictive little ex-girlfriend Becky Slater.

Yeah talk about sibling rivalry! I heard Crystal went for the role of Winnie and then the producers saw Danica like over her shoulder and said hey why don't you try out too and so she won the role of Winnie and Crystal only got to be the nemesis who only was a recurring character.
I bet that caused trouble in the home. I think in some ways her brother dying in Vietnam followed by the divorced screwed Winnie up. Kevin always said he wanted to help her. Winnie never really got that until the last episode and going away to Paris probably helped her with encouraging letters from Kevin.
Hated that Kevin and Winnie never got together. In a way, it took a lot of guts to not give what the fans wanted. It's much more realistic, and I think most of us can identify with "the one that got away". I had a "Winnie" in my life but alas, things weren't meant to be.
