Discuss Roseanne

Roseanne Barr Was Pretty Liberal During the Shows Original Airing and the Show Reflected That, But Now She's Conservative and Voted For TRUMP? WTF?

So with that being said isn't it a totally different Roseanne show now? She's a grandma and no longer liberal and against the "MAN" or the Republican President and republican values and such? I mean she freaking voted for Trump for pete's sake! She also was anti-Hilary and recently tweeting criticizing tweets about Obama.

Do we even want to see a completely different politically charged Roseanne show? Wasn't what made the original show so good was that she could appeal to the misrepresented under dogs in middle America in the fictional town of Lanford?

I haven't been following Roseanne Barr's personal/political life lately, but I'm going to take your statements at face-value: that she voted for Trump and leans conservative.

That said, I don't think the new season of Roseanne (to be released in 2018, with 8 episodes, if I recall correctly), if it is indeed a "conservative" show, would be that far off the mark from the first few original seasons.

Think about it. At first, Roseanne and her family lived in a small working-class town in the Midwest. Homosexuality was initially frowned-upon on the show (there was an episode where Jackie asked Dan what he thought if DJ turned out to be gay, which he brushed off, saying it "wasn't going to happen", and Roseanne said nothing against him, though she did tease him by saying he just wanted the Connor name to live on).

As Becky and Darlene get older, Roseanne is not happy when they become sexually active while unmarried, but she accepts that it is going to happen.

There are also some VERY politically incorrect things that Roseanne says to Darlene's friend after Darlene returns late from a concert, basically to the effect that girls who are stupid are the ones who get dragged into the back of vans and raped. This might be considered a "conservative" viewpoint (though I don't think Roseanne was "blaming the victim"; I think she was just saying that Darlene's friend was leading her into unsafe situations).

Granted, as the show wore on it became more "liberal." Lesbian characters were introduced, and the traditional, "nuclear" family dynamic within Roseanne's own (TV) family changed, as well.

But, if we look at the early seasons of Roseanne, the newer, 2018 season, if it does have a more conservative tone, would really only be a return to form, in my opinion.

Thats a very well thought out response. I agree with most of what you say, but I think Roseanne was always supposed to be catered to the forgotten, unrepresented lower class struggling in George Bush Senior's economy. I don't think the show was pro Clinton either, but they did take direct stabs at George Bush Senior through out the show and Roseanne the person did as well off the show. Roseanne was seen on talk shows attacking the fake Leave It To Beaver mom image, and purposely wanted to show how a real mom form a lower working class family is.

The Connor's had Black friends, gay friends/relatives and dealt with a lot of controversial issues as you mentioned such as teen sex, drugs, etc. But I think thats all the things that made Roseanne work and be so successful since they really pushed the boundaries for tv for back then. Now a days there a ton of shows like Roseanne on the air.

I am shocked that Roseanne is seen supporting Trump and RTing conservative nut jobs like James Woods. It's almost like she did a complete 180 on what made her famous and a very wealthy person to begin with.

I would kind of like that more then. I mean, we got almost a decade of her show being liberal minded so it be cool to see her character change as a person and character who doesn't believe in the teachings she raised her children. It would freshen the show up with A change of view and it could be a whole new world of jokes.

Well I saw the first 2 episodes and I thought they were hilarious mostly because they were making fun of themselves the whole time.

I understand Roseanne didn't like the Clintons, but on the show she argues that Trump will bring back jobs but i don't think that is true in real life or on the show even none of her or her kids have good jobs that Trump brought back.

Darlenes fired. Becky works in a crappy mexican restaurant. DJ is in the military which i think he may be the best kid in terms of how their life is stable. He has the military career, a daughter or step daughter they didn't clarify yet as she is black. A wife who is still on tour in the military as well.

Off the show Roseanne made some insane remarks about how Trump rescued some kids from a human trafficking ring or some purely insane BS claims.
