The Cornwall-set dramedy Doc Martin -- starring Martin Clunes and Caroline Catz -- has been renewed for an additional two seasons.
"We are very excited to be able to confirm that we will be making two more seasons of Doc Martin. Season 8 will shoot and be broadcast in 2017 [in the United Kingdom,] then we'll be taking our usual year off to plan, write and tune the scripts," Buffalo Pictures producers Philippa Braithwaite and Mark Crowdy said in a joint statement. "Season 9 will shoot and be broadcast in 2019 [in the United Kingdom] and air around the world in 2020. It's then our intention to bring the series to an end. We've had the most incredible time making this show that we love and care deeply for, and feel very privileged. We'd like to thank our audience around the world for coming on this great journey with us and really hope you enjoy these next two seasons and think they're the best yet -- it's certainly what we're aiming for!"
I personally would have been happy if it had ended after Season 5. I'm still watching, but with decreasing interest. We've heard this "show ending" stuff before, though. They may stick to it this time.

That's great news Just finished watching season 7 this morning via Netflix. Not looking forward to the long wait though between now and 2018 when it will appear here in the colonies.
Philippe LeMarchand: I agree with you somewhat. Season 6 was actually painful for me to watch with Louisa being so unpleasant, but she redeemed herself in season 7.
I'm now looking for a similar show to watch while we await the return of the Doc. Any suggestions?

I don't know if it's on Netflix, but Kingdom (https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/5287-kingdom) seemed similar to me: quirky characters in a picturesque rural location. The 2 preceding Doc Martin TV movies are also worth a look, but aren't in the same continuity. Also the film that started it all - Saving Grace. This is in the same continuity as the TV films, which serve as prequels, but the Doc is a minor character in a plot about a green-fingered widow who takes to farming pot when she finds out she is broke.
