Derek starts his journey with a special blessing from local Indigenous Wardan women before heading out on the hunt for duck. Derek then heads out to sea to collect ocean grown farmed abalone and dances with a local Noongar kids’ dance group!
Derek harvests cabbages in a fun way and helps prepare smoked meats. He also helps a beekeeper put a queen bee into a new hive! We hear special sounds of two didgeridoos in the Boranup Forest and discover why Derek uses a plastic didgeridoo.
Derek heads to Cambray Cheese in what he says is a town named after him — Nannup! He tries black garlic in Osmington, shares busking tips near Margaret River before watching a local dive for freshwater marron. He even has time for a circus lesson!
Derek is on the hunt for pork and orchard-raised free-range eggs. He discovers a special lemon myrtle herb and talks country and culture with Indigenous Noongar man Joe Northover.
Aboriginal school kids sing to a proud Derek in their shared Noongar language before he heads out to pick avocado, learns about native finger limes and gets Mark his favourite olive oil.
In the final episode of the season, Derek learns how to make beetroot pasta, goes cattle herding on a 4-wheeler and even goes on a real hunt in the bush for Indigenous bloodroot with a father and son.
