SPOILERS: This is a pretty good episode, and shows a bit of creativity by trying something completely new: Superman's splitting into two (somewhat weaker) versions of himself. Although it raises an interesting question: he didn't want to break out of jail, because that would be wrong; so did he "half" break out of jail by allowing one version of himself to escape? And is that wrong?

That's an interesting analysis. As kids, I doubt that many of us considered whether Superman was sort of "cheating"--I think we just thought it was a resourceful move on his part. In retrospect I guess it may have violated the spirit of the law, if not the letter.

I also noticed something dubious about that episode. When Superman divides in two, each half is supposed to have 1/2 of Superman's normal strength. But even just half his normal strength should be enough to pull out some window bars, so it shouldn't have taken both of them to do it. This totally lacks credibility, but maybe not for a child.

That's a good point that I hadn't noticed before. You're probably right that the producers figured kids wouldn't question it.
