I've been rewatching the show from the beginning. Currently on season (series) four. I can't say whether or not it's any good without Edd China as I've never seen an episode without him. From what I understand, Edd left basically because the producers drastically reduced the amount of air time dedicated to the repair of the car and in so doing asked Edd to cut corners during the repair process in order to reduce the amount of time spent in the garage (it all comes down to production cost of course - less time in the garage means cheaper production cost). I understand there's more to the show than just repairing the car, there's buying the car and sourcing parts but the repairs are equally important so to reduce the amount of airtime (and also compromising repair quality) dedicated to repairs, it's understandable why he left.
EDIT Just wanted to add this is my all time favourite car repair show.

Yeah I know that, and Velocity would also add more fake drama, and Edd couldn't have it, so he left - which pissed Mike Brewer off. But what I really would like to know, is as said if the new show is worth watching, because I can't see it where I currently live, but thanks for the answer anyway. And yeah, mine too. I actually have most of the seasons on DVD, so I do some reruns from time to time.
