Młody muzyk Tadeusz Wyczyński trafia do obozu koncentracyjnego w Oświęcimiu za działalność konspiracyjną. Skierowany do oddziału "doświadczalnego" - zostaje zarażony tyfusem. Rodzi się w nim imperatyw przeżycia za wszelkę cenę. Kornblumenblau - to tytuł niemieckiej piosenki granej przez więźnia na obsesyjne żądanie blokowego. Dzięki temu dostaje się do obozowej orkiestry i do wymarzonego bloku artystów, co daje mu szansę przeżycia. Po wyzwoleniu obozu przez żołnierzy radzieckich ochoczo gra im Katiuszę, byle dostać miejsce w pociągu. |
