Did they just make Nelle a brain dead moron today? First she is narrating all her actions out loud. "No one can find that recording of Sonny admitting he slept with me!" Then she leaves her computer open saying that the Sonny Audio was deleted (why would you even title it that? Call it "Taxes for January" and no one would be interested). Then she puts a key under her doormat and tosses the memory stick that still has the recording(!) in the garbage right next to the computer. Honestly I'm glad Carly found out so we don't have to suffer through yet another vow renewal ceremony with Sonny.

I suppose the writers don't have a clue that when you delete a file it goes in the Recycling Bin.
It only deletes after you clear the Recycling Bin out which Nelle didn't do.
And what was that thing Carly pulled on Ava last year? "It's in the cloud!"

It doesn't delete even then, it can still be recovered. Data is not really deleted from your computer until the physical address in your hard drive is overwritten by new information, which could take months or even years.

I don't understand why she didn't erase the file off the jump drive before throwing it away? But even dumber was her leaving a key to her apartment under the door mat. If you're involved in a plan to destroy the lives of a mob boss and his wife, you don't provide them with easy access to your apartment. Also, I'm disappointed in how the truth about Nelle was revealed. An old bitty like Felicia is able to get Nelle"s best friend to spill her guts about Nelle's tryst with Sonny? Why would the friend do that during a supposed interview for making Nelle employee of the month? And who would fly to another state to conduct such an interview when it can be done over the phone? Evidently Nelle's friend is also a moron.

Well, and why would Nelle tell her friend the lie about sleeping with Sonny? A cover story in case someone came asking... that she has forgotten telling? A delusion? I don't understand.

Speaking of which is a horrible actress for a vet. And her acting didn't bring out the best in that scene from Jackie Zeman either.
But Zeman more than shined in the Carly scene that followed.

Even then it can be recovered. The hard drive disks have to be replaced totally. AT&T used to do this. They called it mirroring.

Well. you are right, simply overwriting the information won't completely erase it, the process has to be repeated, many times. You can get an app that 'shreds' sensitive files on your computer, what they do is overwrite the physical address, and then delete and overwrite it, again and again, about 500 or 1000 times. By that point, it would probably still be possible to recover it, but it would take an extraordinary effort by an expert.

I don't thonk that the average person who isn't breaking any laws (like downloading child pornography) would need to worry about an expert recovering deleted files. I don't think Carly would have known how to recover a file deleted from a jump drive or garbage folder. So I have to agree that Nelle was a moron for not doing the basics to delete the files and destroy the evidence. Also, the only way Carly would have known that there was a spare key under the welcome mat is if Nelle had told her at some point. So Nelle should have remembered that Carly had access to her apartment and not been so sloppy about destroying the evidence. Even if she hadn't told Carly about the spare key, common sense is that you don't leave a spare key under a welcome mat when you are engaged in a power struggle with a mobster.

Agreed! I know if I'm deleting a file from my computer, I make sure to delete it from the RB immediately. Only because when I'm deleting files, it's because I need space on my HD, but if I were deleting a file because I wanted to hide something, I would certainly remember to clear the RB.

On a show that routinely pulls the 'Spinelli did it' card out of its pocket to get out of impossible situations, yes you do. Even today, Jason was asking Spinelli to hack into the apparently ubiquitous, but still with incredibly weak security, CCT cameras in Port Charles to help him locate Sam. Do you have any idea how ludicrous that is?
By way of comparison, just having someone recover a deleted file from a hard drive is far more sane and sensible.

I was just beyond annoyed that we got a lousy RECAP from Bobbie instead of showing Felicia and this "friend"
The writers could redeem themselves (in my eyes at least) if they give us a scene with this "friend". Something as simple as she tries to call Nelle, leaves a voicemail, then hangs up and says something to herself aloud that reveals what happened with Felicia. This girl must have had some other motive than, "I was so flustered when that lady mentioned Crimson Magazine Person of The Month! I mean it's like the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue or People Sexiest Man Alive!"
