Discuss The Stand

So far, I've just seen the first episode and I didn't think that it was too bad. Even though I imagine that it could be confusing to someone who hasn't read the book, I thought that it was still well done. I am in one of the Facebook discussion groups for this story and opinions there on it are varied.

For me, the jury is still out. I believe that I'll wait for the DVD or the Blu-Ray to be released. I am hearing-impaired, so one thing that I hope for is that CBS follows its' usual practice of furnishing its video disks with either closed-captioning, English, or English SDH subtitles

The first episode is pretty good, but the it goes downhill fast after that. I agree with a lot of the criticism about the need to have flashbacks and Flash forwards, a linear storyline would've been so much better.

Also I'm not sure if the book explains it but lots of inconsistencies in the "powers" of Flagg and Mother Abigail. Also some of the decision making by every character makes no sense, particularly sending the "spies" against mother A's wishes.

Question: did Mother A oppose sending the spies in this version???????

Yes. I've not read the book and I haven't seen the 1994 miniseries since it came out so can't really remember it. Planning on watching it again.

I'm not sure how the book puts it, but in this series the main good characters plot to send spies behind Mother A's back made little sense to me. Maybe I missed something but the whole reason they were there was because of her yet they decide to go against her will? They even mention that she'd flat out reject the idea which is why they have to do it covertly!

Interesting. The book and the 1994 mini-series have the Committee sending the spies (scouts) out after A's disappearance.

I'm looking forward to getting the blu-ray in October. Won't be long now--just over a month.
