Discuss Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

The televised broadcast and streaming release of "The First Kiss That Never Ends" is divided into 4 episodes. So it would be correct to list it as extra season with 4 Episodes not as a separate movie.

Especially since there is not a single other release out there that treats "The First Kiss That Never Ends" as a single episode, but rather as 4 individual episodes, apart from the theatrical release.

Just because a series of episodes is shown in the cinema as one episode, they should not be treated as a movie.

Even Chruncyroll treats it as a separate Season (S25: Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -The First Kiss That Never Ends-) instead of a single movie. https://www.crunchyroll.com/series/GRJ0J828Y/kaguya-sama-love-is-war

In this wiki article you will find the episodes presented correctly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kaguya-sama:_Love_Is_War_episodes

The correct entry should be another season with 4 episodes like this:

  • E1 - Miyuki Shirogane Wants to Talk Things Over / Miko Iino Wants to Talk / About Kaguya Shinomiya, Part 3
  • E2 - About Kaguya Shinomiya, Part 4 / Kaguya Wants to be Noticed (Ice) / Kaguya Wants to Forgive (Ice)
  • E3 - Kaguya Wants to Eat It (Ice) / Our Persona /Kaguya Wants to Confess (Ice)
  • E4 - Kaguya is Fine With It

As with Crunchyroll, the season can be referred to as Season 25 to avoid future overlaps.

Many thanks for your effort!

I invite you to read this previous content report.

Wouldn't there be two original releases by that logic? Once the release of the movie. And once the release of a season with 4 new episodes.

Wouldn't it then be possible to enter both like IMDB did?

Ultimately, each of the 4 episodes contains additional information that would be important for the completeness of the movie database. E.g. titles, the descriptions of the individual episodes, running time, release date etc.

It would also be important to be able to give a rating to each individual episode. This is possible on IMDB because it is listed as the 4th season as well. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9522300/episodes/?season=4

There are already many releases that treat it as 4 episodes. These can be viewed consistently in the future. The cinema release, on the other hand, was just a merging of these episodes and only aired for one or two weeks.

From a user's perspective and their ability to rate and receive information about the individual episodes, it would definitely make sense. The majority of users stream the series. Almost no one saw it in the cinema.

No. The original release is always the first one.

No. TMDB doesn't support alternate versions and consider them as duplicates.

No. TMDB doesn't support alternate versions and consider them as duplicates.

As you can check for yourself using the two links, the 4 episodes were correctly entered as the 4th season on IMDB and the movie was created as a separate entry.

Each site has its own set of rules.

No. The original release is always the first one

But the cinema version is not exactly the same as the TV version. So they are two separate original releases.

  • Movie: The opening of the cinema version consists only of a montage of clips from the series. The ending of the cinema version is just music and credits without any images.
  • TV-Version: The opening of the The TV-Version is a completely new opening with original scenes that aren't from the series. The ending not only shows credits against a black background like the movie but is completely animated.

Each site has its own set of rules.

There are also a lot of entries on TMDB for movies that only consist of a few unchanged episodes of their related series, which are also listed. Here are some examples:

  • The movie "Futurama - Bender's Big Score" is a sequence of the first 4 episodes of the 5th season of Futurama. You can still find both on TMDB. The movie and the episodes.
  • The movie "The Flash II: Revenge of the Trickster" also only consists of episodes 13 and 22 of the TV-Show "The Flash (1990)". Nevertheless both can be found on TMDB.
  • "South Park: Imaginationland" is also listed as a movie on TMDB even though only three episodes from the series' 11th season were strung together. Nevertheless, the episodes were also listed on TMDB.
  • The movie "Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack" is also just a compilation of three episodes of the 1978 TV show. Both listed on TMDB.
  • "Kim Possible's A Sitch In Time" is listed as a movie on TMDB although only episodes 13-15 of the second season (also on TMDB) are shown here.
  • The movie "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is also listed even though it only consists of 4 episodes of the series (also on TMDB).

So if TMDB wants to follow its already established rules, the episodes must also be entered as a separate season despite the "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War - The First Kiss That Never Ends" movie release. Especially because little things like the opening and ending were changed here.

Thank you!

This is the definition of alternate versions.

There are also a lot of entries on TMDB for movies that only consist of a few unchanged episodes of their related series, which are also listed. Here are some examples:

These "movies" are episodes compilation DVD (the episodes were available first), as per this rule:

Content allowed in the Movie section (only if marked as video):
* Thematic television episode compilations released on VHS or DVD

  • The movie "The Flash II: Revenge of the Trickster" also only consists of episodes 13 and 22 of the TV-Show "The Flash (1990)". Nevertheless both can be found on TMDB.
  • "South Park: Imaginationland" is also listed as a movie on TMDB even though only three episodes from the series' 11th season were strung together. Nevertheless, the episodes were also listed on TMDB.

This movie is a theatrical movie edited from TV episodes (the episodes were available first), as per this rule:

Some content is allowed to exist in both the TV and the movie database. These are:
* TV episodes edited into a proper theatrical movie (e.g. Pippi Longstocking)

  • The movie "Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack" is also just a compilation of three episodes of the 1978 TV show. Both listed on TMDB.

For the following ones, even if the movies were released first, the episodes didn't form a season by themselves, but are part of a much bigger season:

  • "Kim Possible's A Sitch In Time" is listed as a movie on TMDB although only episodes 13-15 of the second season (also on TMDB) are shown here.
  • The movie "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is also listed even though it only consists of 4 episodes of the series (also on TMDB).
  • The movie "Futurama - Bender's Big Score" is a sequence of the first 4 episodes of the 5th season of Futurama. You can still find both on TMDB. The movie and the episodes.

None of these cases are a theatrical movie splitted in a standalone series of episodes.
