A girl is killed, and Zhao Yunlan is put on the case. He speculates that another student, Li Qien, is the real target, and is intrigued by a reserved Professor by the name of Shen Wei who knows more than he's willing to share.

When Li Qian's grandmother passes away Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei is pushed together to figure out what it all means. Suddenly, more Dixing people appears on Haixing and a Sundial pendant reveals the truth in more ways than one.

A student is found aged and dead at the campus, while a university assistant is behaving strangely. A girl with gloves is somehow connected to the case, and Zhao Yunlan has to piece it all together before it's too late.

A woman is murdered and found without her face, and when Zhao arrives on the scene he finds Shen Wei already there. The woman's friend, Lin Yusen, claims he saw the killer and is determined to avenge his loved one.

Huang Linqi, son to a very rich man, suddenly disappears one night. Soon followed by his betrothed Li Jiaqi. Zhao suspects butler Wu knows more than he's saying, and behind the scenes a plot to cover it all up is being orchestrated.

The special investigations team are looking into a strange disappearance and reappearance of a woman. Guo comforts the fiance of the missing girl surprising Old Chu. Chief Zhao asks Shen Wei for help with the case.

Chief Zhao rescues Shen Wei from a mugging and later one of the criminals turns up dead. Lin Jing figures out the murders are based on a popular web novel. After solving another case, Zhao and Shen Wei share a sweet moment talking about the case.

The Special Investigations group makes Guo an official member. Lin Jing makes a special weapon for Guo. Chief Zhao tries to get on Shen Wei’s good side by giving him some books. The Black Cloaked Envoy brings a case to the team. The artifact starts to act up.

Whan Zheng is having vision of her life before SID. On the way northwest SID runs into Shen Wei and his students, and together they head up the mountain. They're told about the Hanga tribe, and Wang Zheng recovers her memories.

Stranded in a remote village, the S.I. Team and Shen Wei and students stay in a strange guest house for the night. Wang Zheng tells them the story of her ancestors. Zhu Jiu stirs up trouble for the S.I. Team with some monsters. Wang Zheng drugs the group and leaves to sacrifice herself. Zhao, Guo and Old Chu go to find her. Strangely, the Black Cloaked Envoy shows up just in time to save them.

The team must rescue Wang Zheng with help of course from the Black Cloaked Envoy. They rescue Wang Zheng and Sang Zan. After Shen Wei takes a drink, Chief Zhao learns finds some very interesting clues.

Zhu Hong’s family kidnaps her and Gao. The group tries to solve a mass suicide that they believe is murder. They come across a man trying to save a little girl who was abused by her father. The group figure out who the real culprit is but will they stop the Zhu Jiu from getting the artifacts?

The little girl disrupts a wedding in a bad way. Shen Wei is the first on the scene. Chief Zhao starts an argument with Shen Wei to find out the truth of who he is. They are interrupted rescuing a reporter. Shen Wei says he has to do research and leaves. FINALLY, Chief Zhao confirms (like he didn’t already know) who is the Black Cloaked Envoy.

The reporter now is a threat to the Special Investigations group and likely Shen Wei. It turns out Gao was not sent to the group by his uncle. There is something up between Chief Zhao and his father. Shen Wei and Chief Zhao’s friendship continues to strengthen.

Guo rescues a clueless man on the street who says he needs to go to the address of the Special Investigations Unit. It turns out to be the Regent from the Underground and before he can reveal secrets about the Black Cloaked Envoy, Chief Zhao interrupts him and takes him into his office to discuss the issue privately. It appears that a very important book is lost and the Black Cloaked Envoy is very angry.

Chief Zhao and the Black Cloaked Envoy go underground to find the book. Chief Zhao’s father comes for a surprise inspection and takes over the department on a case involving strange earth movements. It is revealed how Guo was brought into the department.

Zhu Jiu is back and out to destroy the agency using a man that has a history with Chief Zhao’s father. Chief Zhao and Old Wu run from underground attackers. The Black Cloaked Envoy tries to find Chief Zhao before he is hurt or killed. Shen Wei thinks about quitting being a professor. A new case has sprung up.

Cong Bo finds a fight club but all is not as it seems. Old Chu and Guo are sent to investigate and ends up in participating in the fight club. There they find another undergrounder. Shen Wei and Chief Zhao are not far behind only to find there is a connection with Zhu Jiu.

Old Chu and Guo are taken by Zhu Jiu with the Fire undergrounder. He uses them as bait to get the artifacts from Special Investigations. Chief Zhao devises as idea to trap Zhu Jiu but he is unaware that the hostages are in danger of losing their life. The team takes a very drastic measure for the trap and it inadvertently saves Old Chu, Guo, and the fire undergrounder from certain death.

The kidnapper is caught, but SID must deal with the consequences of their plan. Zhao takes the responsibility and the punishment, but before anyone can react the holy tools are at risk and Zhao comes face to face with the real mastermind.

The Special Investigations group is unsure of what to do with Chief Zhao’s blindness. Shen Wei takes him to a friend who is a doctor. There is no discernable reason for it. Chief Zhao’s father tells him to stay away from Shen Wei. Zhu Hong tells him to come to a Flea Market for demi-mortals. Perhaps they’ll find a cure there.

A strange doctor is found who might be able to fix Chief Zhao’s eyes. He catches Da Quin spying on him using dark energy. The doctor refuses to treat Chief Zhao. Shen Wei demonstrates that he’ll do anything to help Chief Zhao and the doctor relents, but there are scary side effects that cause more problems. Finally La Qian secretly emails the team with a suggested cure that involves the artifact.

Da Quin tries to get his early memories back which leads him to suspect the Dark Cloaked Envoy. He follows him and Chief Zhao as they go to the underworld to learn about a new artifact. A new monarch is being crowned. There is a betrayal in the leadership and trust between Chief Zhao and the Dark Cloaked Envoy is tested.

Strange things are happening at the hospital. It appears that the new artifact is causing a lot of issues with employees attempting suicide. Chief Zhao gets stuck in a real live video game with some devastating consequences. Shen Wei promises to tell Chief Zhao more of their shared past.

There is something changing people’s personality. The new artifact is causing mayhem in Dragon City. Soon the only people not affected on the Special Investigations team are Shen Wei and Chief Zhao as well as Lin Jing. Lin Jing develops a crush on a musician who is not all that she seems.

There is a woman who recognizes Da Qing. It turns out there is a past they share that Da Qing can’t remember. Da Qing goes back to the doctor to try to remember his past. A confrontation happens which results in Da Qing being injured and ends up remembering everything, including how his past involves Shen Wei and Chief Zhao.

Something is up with Yin Jing and Chief Zhao knows that he might not be what he believes. Chief Zhao, Shen Wei, and Da Qing break into the lab and find out what they’re doing. Shen Wei has an uncomfortable discussion with Chief Zhao’s father which leads to a falling out with Shen Wei and Chief Zhao.

There is a story behind Sha Ya and it involves a best friend turned enemy named Yu Zhu and a run in with Ye Zun and another with Chief Zhao’s father. Lin Jing made a big mistake in judgement about Sha Ya. Chief Zhao is upset by his father’s disappearance. Shen Wei gives him a pep talk.

The game is on to find the missing people including Chief Zhao’s father. Something is not quite right with the healing powers of the Black Cloaked Envoy. The last place the group needs to look is at the university. The Merit Brush was found.

Zhao finds the traitor in SID and keeps working to protect the people of Dragon city. Meanwhile, Ye Zun is working behind the scenes very efficiently. Down in Dixing, Shen Wei is betrayed and has to deal with the situation the best he can.

An agonizing waiting game begins, and tempers are flying left and right. Zhao tries to contact Shen Wei repeatedly, but no answer. While this is going on, an enemy is plotting to mess with their heads and Zhu Hong is the first victim.

Rumors about SID is damaging their reputation in the public eye, and SID tries to do damage control. The biggest target of both the rumors, and their enemy's game, is Chu. Zhao orders Guo to follow Chu, but it's a decision he'll regret.

To live with the consequences of his actions is something Chu learns the hard way, but Zhao refuses to give up and fights back. He enters Dixing, infiltrating their guards, and brings back a badly wounded Shen and Guo to SID.

While Shen and Guo are recovering, a powerful enemy takes the center stage. Zhao isn't easily tricked but is forced to move against him prematurely. This takes Zhao to a place of realization and understanding he never thought was possible.

This is the story of how it all began, and Zhao is fascinated to discover his role in it. The kinship he always felt towards Shen Wei was real and true, but everything is overshadowed by a declaration of war coming from Dixing.

Both parties are rallying forces to their side as things start to heat up. Ye Zun and Zhao are both using their wits to try and outplay the other, but it won't stay that way. Soon, forces will move that will change things forever.

The four holy tools are gathered, and the SID team prepares to make their move both above and below ground. The Yashou tribes must be dealt with, as must the situation on the human streets, but the worst chaos is down in Dixing.

A hatred that lasted for 10 000 years finally gets to express itself, but on the other side there's love that lasted just as long. This is the endgame between these two powerful forces. How far will they go to reach their end?

There are heavy losses on all sides, because war is never a pretty picture, but the most painful situations are the ones you must witness without being able to affect or change. Some sacrifices were destined from the beginning.
