I did see this discussion however this either means the current season 2 (part 3 of the show) should also be in season 1 or that the show should be split up into 3 seasons named Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and so on for future seasons (if there are any).

Personally I would split it in 3 seasons as it is listed as such on Netflix but they are just called parts instead. What do you guys think?

The renewal announced in Variety refers to part 2 as the second half of season 1. Season 2 will be the next 16 episodes, so part 3 (and 4) is season 2. We have an episode group for the parts.

The "group" count is always X seasons. See for example Comedian of the World or non-original shows with seasons split in two like Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.
