At least he got to meet Randall and the girls before he passed. He really felt loved in the past few months, knowing his son and and the entire family. I'm so happy Randall let him into his life without hatred. Those last few scenes left everyone in my living room in tears. I'm also glad Randall got to travel to Memphis withWilliam, and William got to introduce his son to his old life, friends, and family. The last scene would have been even better if William's father was there with his mother to great him, but that would have broken everyone's heart all over again.

I don't think William's Dad was ever in the picture, just as Randall's bio Mom wasn't in the picture. Lots of parallels between this wonderful Father and son. Also, lots of wishes come true for William, courtesy of Randall. Learning to drive, for one; loved that entire scene:) Randall going to the apartment on Thanksgiving to retrieve William's music, which, I wonder if we will get to hear. What opens some doors is that Randall has family in Memphis he never knew he had and was all in his glory meeting them at the club:) I was really hoping for a miracle, for something to happen to make William's health improve so he could be here longer. William, in his short time with his family, fulfilled himself and Randall's wife and kids. A few episodes back, I recall seeing "Poems for My Son" on the table. Seeing it on the seat of Randall's car at the end made me lose it. "My beautiful boy"...I cried so hard that my dog got up and left the room. I kid you not!!:) We got the whole William experience. It makes me more annoyed with Rebecca, now that I think of it. Randall could have had many years with him, had it not been for her.

William's father was in the very beginning of the episode, he was the man in the army uniform, that was leaving to go to war. William's father died in the war, and I think since his mother never remarried, she would have kept his memory alive with William talking about him and telling him stories about his father. It would have been fitting that they could have "met" each other on the other side. But again, that probably would have ripped out too many hearts!!!

Oh man!!!!! I forgot!!!! Had he been paired with his mother at the end, that would have been truly emotional for all of us.

I can't believe that William is gone. I loved that old man.

What a beautiful ending to a life. What he said about his mom being at the beginning and his son being at the end was so moving.

I balled my eyes out. I felt the loss as if William was a part of me.

Roll the windows down and crank the music up Randall. You deserve it!

Randall gave him his last Thanksgiving and Christmas; he gave love and happiness to William; their dynamic was beautiful. It will be sad for Randall to return home, and William isn't there :/

William's dad died serving his country. His mother was the only parent he ever had and knew. They had a beautiful relationship.

As soon as I saw her greeting William...I knew his life's journey was over.

I wanted him to live so much. I didn't want to lose him or have to say goodbye.

My heart is broken 💔 into a thousand pieces.

I think the writers missed that tear jerker opportunity. I would have loved for William's dad to have been there to greet him alongside his mother. It would be essentially the first time he meets his father.

I agree, the audience would have needed therapy or some sort of intervention after that heart wrenching moment.

I haven't watched the scene yet .... and reading this has me tearing up. It is a shame they couldn't have let WIlliam last a little longer. He is a wonderful character. I am glad that Randall had not only the chance to meet him ... but the opportunity to get to know him.

Someone mentioned the "my beautiful son" comment ..... I saw that on the previews and it made me tear up. Dang show gets me EVERY time.

Wow, you're good. On the boards while simultaneously watching. I guess I know how you feel about spoilers.

You'll be balling at the end. I'll be here for you if you need a shoulder.

Spoilers don't bother me - they add anticipation! LOL

OMG, I am hysterical. Sometimes I need a tissue ....... tonight, I am wiping my eyes on my pajamas! I lost it when the ducks crossed the road.

I have not cried that much in a while crying_cat_face . Sterling K. Brown is just so good, every one on the show is but her just really stands out for me. His timing perfection ... the whole "You get a cousin, you get a cousin... " had me laughing harder than I have in a while also joy_cat ! Well written and well done!

Weren't they just the cutest freaking ducks? 🐤

Question: I'm confused. Why does my quote regarding your comment keep coming up as @PANDJY? Especially since you're Mrs. Y (formerly Porsia) 🤔🤔🤔

Furthermore, neither of those names appear under...users in this discussion. I'm scratching my head on this one. Mystery! 🕵

Loved that whole scene!! Randall at his happiest and most relaxed:) It's nice he will have all this family he never even knew he had.

I can't remember when I've outright sobbed so hard! I have a tissue handy every episode, but this episode had me crying til I could barely breathe :'(

William was such a wonderful man, and his relationship with Randall & his family, was so beautiful. So many things got to me in the final moments of this episode...William reuniting with his devoted mother on the other side, the treasures from William's childhood on the dashboard, Poems for My Son on the seat where he had sat, the ducks crossing the road as Randall was leaving Memphis, then Randall rolling down the windows like his father told him to. Oh, and also when Randall took William's head in his hands, like Jack used to do for him...I wept like a baby. Everything was so poignant, I feel like I've lost a family member.

Listen, it's a consensus that every viewer loss a member of their family...a dear sweet tremendously loved member of their family when WE lost William. And no one can convince me otherwise...so don't even waste your time trying. If you do, I'm going to have to hurt you physically. Not you...anyone who doesn't feel the way we do.

When Randall was making the bed after their jazz session the night before and he said okay old man, I let you sleep late but it's time to hit the road. In that moment, my heart sank because I was afraid that William died in his sleep. I was so relieved that he was awake and alive but very concerned that he was struggling and dealing with pain.

I kept crying out, no no no no no no no no!

Losing William was devastating and crushed my heart! Ripped it apart. 😢😭

I think we may need to start a support group. I'm really serious. So any fan that is grieving, I am here for you. I hope you all can be there for me too.

"This Is Us"... superbly written and wonderfully portrayed by each actor. Kudos to all!

Let me stop here. But I can keep going. 🙄
