I just finished watching season 3, and I thought it was great. I thought season 2 was good, but I found season 3 even better. Also what did everyone think of Ani? She seemed really out of place to me.
What about everyone else?

I hated Ani too- yeah, I liked this season on the whole, but while I understand why they wanted (spoilers) to make Monty and Bryce more than one-dimensional, they tried too hard I think

Agreed. The way they were trying to get the audience to maybe sympathize with Bryce or even show why Monty was so screwed up kind of fell flat to me. Monty was always going to be Monty and someone with that kind of anger, who hadn't sought professional help, was in no way going to be redeemable. I don't think there was a chance for Bryce either. He may have wanted to change or may have wanted people to believe he was capable of being more than a rapist but, he just kept falling back to default "a-hole" mode.
Also, I was NOT surprised by who the killer was. I knew who it was about 4 or 5 episodes in. I kind of wish it was someone else but meh.
Ani was completely UNLIKABLE! I did not understand her role or why they thought a new character and narrator was even necessary. She came to Liberty well after everything happened but had to be the one to investigate these new people she knew nothing about? Was that their way of trying to show neutrality? Because it didn't work. It really irked me how she kept saying "Why didn't you tell me?" Um?? Because who are you? Why is what happened to me a year ago any of your business? It was a really poor execution of this character in my opinion. She added nothing to the story other than annoyance.
I think the season as a whole was ok. It wasn't my favorite out of the series thus far, however.
Lastly, these kids have more problems than all of the adults I know combined. It's startling how much they have had to endure. And none of the adults seem to notice? Really? It takes a tragedy before they go looking at their children or offering help? I mean I know they say "helicopter parenting" is bad but, SOME parenting should be done at the very least.

I agree. I felt like that there was no reason to add a new character like Ani. It brought nothing to the story. Why would a new character be so vested in all these people and what happened a year ago? Yes, Bryce was killed after Ani arrived but it still made no sense that she would be made narrator for the season.
Bryce and Monty were still going to be assholes no matter what. I don't think either of them would ever be redeemable.
Yes, these kids have been through a lot but these issues are real life issues that kids today are going through and that's the point of the whole show. Yes, some of it may be a bit over the top but there are kids out there that are facing these very issues and feel like nobody cares and that nobody will listen to them or believe them. If anything is taken from the show I hope it is that there are people that will believe you and will be there for you.
Am I mistaken that I read that this was the last season of the show? After that ending it really shouldn't be.

Yeah, you are mistaken. They're doing a 4th season.

OK. So I loved S3, the best of all IMHO. I even liked Ani. I thought it was interesting that they created a character who could move among the various other characters, gather intel, and advance the plot. I wish she hadn't slept with Bryce, but that was also just to stir things up. I guess a straight up murder mystery was less jarring that the rape/suicide fallout from S1.
