Discuss The Ark

It's been entertaining, but there are some pretty large credibility/continuity/plot issues that will probably just be hand-waved away. Why was Ark 3 already orbiting/stopped at that planet, when they were attacked? They should have been cruising along to Proxima B. At just over Warp 2, if they were supposed to make the trip in 9 months. Apparently they weren't low on "fuel," because there was plenty for Ark 1 to salvage. Why was there a crew suited up for some kind of EVA? Did they have advance notice of the attack or something?

What are the chances of all that happening just in time for Ark 1 to get there before all the dead bodies are smelly, etc? For that matter, what are the chances of them ending up there AT ALL? The attack on Ark 1 couldn't have been planned for when they'd just happen to find a comet to get water from, et al. The intent must have been to ruin the ship without any of the people even waking up.

Basically, The Ark seems to be the new Space: 1999. Maybe some interesting character/story ideas, set among some laughably ridiculous "science" and technology.

The same chances as in any movie I guess. Why do you think they were already orbiting? Maybe they were just attacked while passing conveniently near the planet and stop after the attack. BTW, the surviving girl explained that they were suited for the maintenance run.

But what maintenance run? Why would they need one? It wasn't because of the attack, obviously. And how would Ark 15 find them? etc, etc.

Of course that's all leaving aside things like there are no planets or planetary systems between Earth and Proxima. Proxima IS THE CLOSEST.

Not according to Devlin :D

Unfortunately for Devlin, he didn't create the universe. grinning Not the actual universe, anyway.

I haven't seen episode 11 yet, but I'm thinking they set it up so that someone - maybe Angus, maybe Angus plus Garnet - will manage to convince that Ark 15 bad girl... Kelly?... to go against her mother.

And now, after seeing episode 11, I hope for the start of episode 12 that Lane has the shuttle airlock rigged so he can open it by pulling a string or something.

The show has been renewed for season 2.

Unless something pretty bizarre happens, that means season 2 will all take place on Proxima B.

Shooting on actual locations is gonna be more expensive, so I guess something pretty bizarre is almost inevitable, to keep them in the same studio set.

About the only thing I can think of is they have to go on to Ross 128 B for some reason. Like, the plan to get Proxima B rotating, fails. Which would probably mean somehow combining the crews of Ark 1 and 15, or something. Perhaps even taking both ships. Even with their "FTL" that would take them another year, without any way to "sleep" through it. Could they somehow fill scripts with stories about that? Would they keep running into "systems" and "planets" that are somehow "along the way," Because Plot/Because Drama, even though that's IMPOSSIBLE?

They could try to fill Stargate: Universe shoes in some bizarre deranged way :D

Can they out-derange Discovery, and Picard, etc? I guess we'll find out.

That they apparently only plan to have 12 episodes this "season" rather than a typical 13, could mean that episode 13 was planned to be a finale if they weren't renewed. Could also mean that episode 12 has a cliffhanger ending that they wanted to hold onto.

Well, it was basically a cliffhanger season finale, as I expected. Probably episode 13 resolves at least some of it, but we won't see it until later.
