Discuss Mission: Impossible

This review/synopsis of a 46 year old TV episode contains spoilers*

Kim Hunter, peeved that she didn't win Mother of the Year award, shoots one of her sons in the opening scene.

It turns out he was a government informer, so she was justified. Nonetheless, she and her other son flee to a fictional Carribeanesque island that has no extradition agree, emt with the states. It is up to Jim and his crew to trick them into coming back.

Since she is a big believer in Voodoo, they decide to emulate Scooby Doo villains and use a gizmo to project a holograph ghost of her dead son.

Since my eyes were stuck up in the top of my skull for rolling so much at the plot silliness, I may have missed some of the subtleties. Fortunately, in a last minute twist, the IMF didn't really expect her to believe it really was a ghost. They tricked her into thinking her other son was doing the Scooby Doo villain bit forcing her to turn to disguised-as-a-criminal Jim Phelps to smuggle her out of the country and into her stache of gold (and then into the arms of law enforcement).

An underdone subplot involved a love triangle between Casey, Willie, and Kim Hunter's son and his crooked smile. I would have preferred to see more of Casey working her magic on the son and less of Kim Hunter getting entranced by the faux Voodoo. I fondly remembered the days of Cinnamon and the way she beguiled high rollers and womanizing dictators. Those stories were done so much better than this.

Oh well. At least we get to see a one sided fight between Willie and the villain. (Casey was so nice. She supplied Mr. Villain with a gun to shoot Willie. So sad that his love for her was fake. So was the gun. Heroes and villains alike on this show are so ingenuous.)

A lightweight and mildly entertaining entry. It was diverting enough, but it is evident why this show was on its last legs.

I think I should be up to that one by next week

I really did. I went into season 7 thinking I was going to be underwhelmed but I ended up binging on it and really enjoying the season. The only episode I did not care for was the fighter

Robert Hogan, who played the cuter bad guy son, was on a couple of episodes of Twelve O'Clock High and in the second episode that he was in, his character's last name was Kelly!

And Kim Hunter would've gotten away with it if hadn't been for those meddlin' IMF Agents!

😂

I watched Incarnate again last Sunday. It was pretty good. Season Seven seemed to be half good episodes and half bad episodes.

Well there are some Season Seven episodes, like The Ultimatum and The Pendulum that are flat out awful. I was very sad when I realized that The Ultimatum was the last episode Barbara Anderson appeared in as Mimi. She should have had a better episode to have made her final appearance on Mission Impossible.

Was I the only person who caught the reference to a character from the episode Movie when Jim was telling Mrs. O'Connell and her son about his services as a pilot?
