I noticed this one-season show, aka The Mickey Rooney Show, on the Film Detective channel on Sling TV, and decided to give it a try. I've watched three episodes so far, and It's actually a pretty funny show w/some witty, almost surreal writing, not unlike the Jack Benny Show.
It has 30 episodes, and I'm surprised it lasted only one season, unless the episodes I haven't seen weren't as good as the ones I have already seen.
If you ever get to see the episode "The Moon or Bust" (maybe on YouTube?), I think you'll laugh out loud, especially near the end during the explanatory TV interview w/Mickey and his co-pilot.

I also recently stumbled across this show on the Film Detective channel. The "The Moon or Bust" episode had me in stitches several times. And PT 100 is right, it is a bit like the Jack Benny Show: It gets almost surreal at times, and Mickey was usually the butt of the joke, as was Benny.
I think many people probably underrate Rooney, but there's a reason he was so successful in so many musical, comedic and dramatic roles: talent. Let's not forget that he was the top box office draw from 1939 through 1941, and throughout his career he was nominated for many awards.

Update: after watching a bunch more episodes, a lot of them are not as good. So I guess there were only a few really good ones. Maybe that's why the show didn't last very long.
