What I understood from that exchange was that English titles described on the Elonet website as "nimi' were fine whereas those described as "käännösnimi" weren't, since those are the reports you asked me to delete (which I did). This film is "nimi." Was there something else that I missed?

Also genuinely what is the problem with translated titles? IMO they would make these films more accessible to non-Finnish speaking users (which I'm going to say is the vast majority of people). What's the point of keeping these titles in Finn if even the National Audio Visual Institute is publishing English titles for certain films?

Even the titles with "nimi" need to have an official release with that English or other language title, just like mod @lineker has described. This means that films that don't get released in an English speaking contries shoudn't have translated English titles. So if you can prove these "nimi" titles where used in an official release they can be added, otherwise they shoud be added as an alternative title.

Ok... I'm still not really understanding why you bothered to specify "käännösnimi" in the first place if they're all invalid, but fine.

You and I both know that most of the films I've been contributing to, mid-budget Finnish films from the 1920s-1950s, were never "officially" released in English, and never will be. Even if they were, how would I go about proving that other than digging through newspaper archives. The same can be said for the majority of international features made in the 20th century, very few of which had the budget or the audience to justify an English language release.
