How did Kennedy get out of the car when Joe Gargan or Paul Markham could not open the doors? Certainly Kennedy didn't close the door after him. It seems like the door should have still been open. I haven't seen this addressed anywhere.

In the movie and in reality, Kennedy did not try to save her. He sat on the shore and called her name. Two friends of his tried to get to her after some time had passed. He walked back to where the party was and told them what happened. The car was visible in the water. Apparently the pond was only about 10-12 feet deep. They could not get her out and it is not clear why. If Kennedy exited though the window it would still be open, so would the door. It is not clear how Kennedy got out but she couldn't and Gargan or Markham couldn't get to her.

I know Kennedy "said" he dove down many times but the movie does not show that. My question is why couldn't Gargan or Markham couldn't get her out. Even if she was dead by that time, (she wouldn't have been flailing around if that was the case), they should have been able to open a door. Somehow Kennedy got out. The door or window should have still been open for them. Not trying to indict Kennedy's actions more than he already has, just curious about something that seems unresolved in the movie.

Please stop listing statistics about people trapped in cars. That's not the point. The point is Kennedy got out. HOW? I am sure he didn't close the door or roll up the window after he exited. Apparently you haven't seen the movie. Go see it and then you may understand what I am asking.

Kopechne was NOT trapped by her seatbelt. She is shown in the air bubble as conscious and screaming for help. I am done with this thread unless and until someone who has seen the movie responds.

I wondered this as well. Being a Kennedy you KNOW he was drunk so the only logical thing is that when the car flipped his door flew open and he was ejected then the door shut upon impact. Stories report Mary jo was alive down there for a long time so that seems to indicate no open door or window otherwise she would have found it. If only someone could post a million worthless stats

Exactly! I think people like Invidia is why IMDB stopped allowed discussions.

I know it's why some have stopped posting here at TMDB . I thought she had ran you, the OP - away (I mentioned this in the Westworld thread "THE DOOR: Episode 2" on page 3) .
Check out the Westworld boards most all the threads were started by her...and then spammed by her. No one wants to come here and search through/read all that anal nonsense.
